A man was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after he scaled the perimeter wall of the city’s domestic airport on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident took place at the domestic terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport near gate number 8.
“The man had entered the airport after climbing over a wall which is not fenced and not higher that five feet. As soon as he tresspassed into the airport, armed CISF constable Sunil Kumar who was patrolling the perimeter nabbed him and called the CISF control room for reinforcement,” said a police officer.
Mumbai has been under an alert after the Munich attacks on Friday in which nine people were killed. Security had been increased at the airport too.
The tresspasser was handed over at the Vakola police station. He is likely to be booked for tresspassing under the IPC, the officer said. “The man appears not to be from Vakola and has not been able to tell us his name. He has been saying ‘galti se aa gaya’ (I entered by mistake). We are still making inquiries,” the officer said.
The CISF officials, meanwhile, denied the incident.
