Mumbai in the budget

The Rs-8,500 crore Mumbai Trans Harbour Link between Sewri and Nhava Sheva will be completed in four years,Finance Minister Sunil Tatkare said while presenting the state budget today.

The Rs-8,500 crore Mumbai Trans Harbour Link between Sewri and Nhava Sheva will be completed in four years,Finance Minister Sunil Tatkare said while presenting the state budget today. “It will help in the development of the hinterlands of Konkan,” he said.

On other road projects,he said the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation would be the nodal agency for the Rs-2,372 crore,10.63-km Versova- Bandra Sea Link project. An agency has been selected for the Rs 1,950-crore,4-km Worli-Haji Ali Sea Link and work is expected to start this year,he said.

“Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana,Rs 120 crore has been sanctioned to Sir J J Group of Hospital(s),Mumbai. Out of this Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned by Central Government for purchase of machinery and Rs 20 crore by the state government for construction work,” Tatkare said.

Navi Mumbai airport
The government will take up with the Centre the clearance necessary for the proposed international airport at Navi Mumbai,so that work can start early,Tatkare said.

Transport
Tatkare mentioned the upcoming Metro and monorail projects. “Government has decided to construct an interstate bus terminal at Wadala and this work will start this year. Government has taken up Mumbai Urban Transport Project to make comfortable the daily commuting by local trains for citizens of Mumbai city… Expenditure of Rs 8,550 crore is expected under Phase I and II and 176 new local trains will be available on Western and Central Railway,” said Tatkare.

Museum on Sachin…
The government plans a sports museum in Mumbai to showcase the career of cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. “His contribution in the field of cricket is incomparable. To encourage fledgling players,government intends to build a grand sports museum to showcase sports career of Shri Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai city. Necessary provision will be made available for this purpose,” said Tatkare.

…Bollywood too
The budget also promised to construct a “magnificent museum depicting prestigious history of Indian cinema” in Mumbai.
