A 52-YEAR-OLD constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the Powai office of Sakinaka Division’s assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Wednesday. The deceased, Sudhir Gurav, was posted as a special writer at the ACP office in Powai.

The police said the incident took place after ACP Milind Khetle and other officers had left for home on Wednesday. “Gurav stayed back saying that he will lock the office and leave,” said an officer.

The incident came to light after Khetle’s driver and operator returned to the office after dropping him home. “They entered the office and saw Gurav’s bag. The ACP office is a one-plus-one structure… they went upstairs and found Gurav hanging from a steel ladder,” said an officer from Powai police station.

The two rushed him to nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

The police have registered an accidental death report. “No suicide note was found and we are yet to record his family’s statement. Gurav was posted at the Powai police station three months ago. He then volunteered to work at the ACP office,” said the officer. Gurav is survived by his wife and a daughter.
