Mumbai Confidential: NCP minister surprised by own department’s notice against agro-unit linked to him
When he inquired about the issue and asked why none of his staffers knew about it, they said that nobody had realised the notice was to the unit linked to the minister.
The leader is now left with no option but to laud the transparency and honesty within his department, whether he likes it or not.
Dept notice to its minister
A Maharashtra minister from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was surprised to receive a notice from a government body for an agro-industrial unit linked to him. What was more surprising was that his own department had sent the notice. When he inquired about the issue and asked why none of his staffers knew about it, they said that nobody had realised the notice was to the unit linked to the minister. The leader is now left with no option but to laud the transparency and honesty within his department, whether he likes it or not.
Influence & interpretation
Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, when the Election Commission wrote to police commissionerates to transfer officers who have been in the same district for more than three years, or have a chargesheet filed against them, which even courts have taken into cognisance, various unit commanders came up with different interpretations of what comprises a ‘district’ and ‘cognisance’. In some cases, different zones in the same commissionerate were considered as a ‘different region’ while in case of chargesheets, taking ‘cognisance’ was interpreted as a court filing charges in the case. Both these interpretations ended up benefiting a few officers who continue to remain in the commissionerate.
