Mumbai’s Campion School to now become co-ed, offer Cambridge International education from next academic year

From the next academic year (2025-26), the Campion School will offer admission to both boys as well as girls. Beginning from the lower grades by starting admissions from junior KG, the school will gradually expand it across all levels. Organically, with every passing year, the Cambridge International curriculum will proceed ahead as the ICSE curriculum phases out eventually.

According to the Jesuits, by becoming co-educational, Campion aims to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment where students can learn and grow alongside one another, preparing them for diverse real-world scenarios and promoting mutual respect and understanding.

Fr. Dr. John Rose, PhD, chairperson of the Council of Management, said, “Along with our belief that co-ed pattern will assure a more inclusive approach, this transformation partly is also a result of a demand by parents who struggle to find other schools for their daughters.”

Fr. Dr. Rose also spoke how originally going by the catholic institutions, schools for boys were run by the Jesuits and those for girls were run by the nuns. “With changing times, schooling requirements need to transform and we are taking the step,” he said while adding that they are beginning with lower grades so that it will be a smooth transition.

As junior KG will be the only class to have girls at the beginning of co-ed next academic year, for now it will be conducted on ground floor which will be equipped with all requisite facilities, such as washrooms for girls, to make them comfortable in an otherwise boys’ school. “Such changes will be kept in mind as the school undergoes structural shifts in the building to complement the education under Cambridge board, such as modern classrooms which encourage discussions among students,” said Fr. Dr. Rose.
The move to offer an international curriculum, according to the management, is to emphasise on critical thinking, global perspectives, and holistic development.

Dr. Francis Swamy, PhD, principal of Campion School, said, “Our shift to co-education and an international curriculum reflects our commitment to evolving with the times. This will not only broaden our student community but also enrich the learning experience for every Campionite.”
