COMMUTERS taking the Harbour Line will have a smoother journey beginning Monday as the mega block, which was in effect for the past 72 hours for repairs and capacity augmentation on the line, is scheduled to end on 1.30 am on Monday. The trains will start operating normally by Monday morning, said railway officials.
The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), which develops railway infrastructure in the state, had imposed the block to carry out works such as lengthening of the platform number 2 on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), changing railway track crossovers, repairs and maintenance work of overhead wires, removing stabling lines etc.

The block was put into effect from 1.30 am on Friday. For the entire day, Central Railways operated all Harbour Line services from a single platform instead of the usual two platforms at CST, leading to delays and crowding. On Saturday and Sunday, all services on the harbour line remained suspended.
An MRVC official said, “Although the block is scheduled to go on until 1.30 am on Monday, we plan to complete most work by Sunday evening.”
Even as the Central Railway authorities had made alternate transport arrangements, commuters had a harrowing time during the mega block.
