A 27-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Sion Koliwada on Friday. According to police, the deceased, Nitesh Gaikwad, was despondent at being unmarried and unemployed.

Senior Inspector Prashant Raje of Antop Hill police station said, “Gaikwad resided in a one plus one structure with his parents. He hanged himself when his parents were sleeping on the mezzanine floor.”

The incident came to light at 9 am Friday after his parents woke up. “They saw his hanging body and rushed him to Sion hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said an officer.

Antop Hill police were informed, after which a case of accidental death was registered. “So far, we have learnt that he was frustrated as he was unmarried and couldn’t get a job. We will register a case on the findings of our investigation,” said an officer.
