“We are talking to the victim’s friends and coordinating with the Bandra police. The victim’s father says he was wearing a gold chain, which hasn’t been recovered. However, it is hard to ascertain if robbery was the motive for the murder,” said Police Inspector Vilas Sanap, investigating officer in the case at Kashimira police station.”The father has not named any suspect,” the officer added.

According to the police, the victim used to work with his father at their popular paan shop. “He was a good person. He did not have any enemies and was friendly towards everyone,” said the victim’s mother Urmila.

Sources said that on November 23, Nikunj left his father’s shop on his bike around 8.30 pm, telling him he was leaving for dinner. When his father called him around 9.30 pm, Nikunj said he would take some more time. A senior officer said that around this time, they have CCTV footage in which Nikunj is seen walking around with three other people in the Bandra area.

“Neither Nikunj’s family nor friends identify any of the three people,” the officer said.

Chowrasia called up his son again around 10.30 pm, but could not get through. He then kept calling up his son, but there was no answer. Chowrasia eventually approached the Bandra police, where a missing persons complaint was registered.
