Train services on Western and Central Railway are likely to be hit on Republic Day. Motormen of WR and CR have decided to go on strike to press for their salary and other work-related demands.
According to the motormens association,all motormen will take one-day holiday on January 26 as the railway administration is turning a blind eye to their long pending demands.
Devendra Yadav,president of the joint action forum of Central and Western Railway,said,We are left with no other option. As we want to minimise the inconvenience caused to the passengers,we have chosen to strike work on January 26. Drivers of long-distance trains are also planning to join us.
According to motormen,there should be proper justification to grade he motormens pays. A motorman alone carries the responsibility of around 7,000 passengers,they said.

The sixth CPC has recommended grade pay of Rs 4,800 to the staff in grade 5500- 9000 and Rs 5400 to those in grade 6500-10500. The association demands that there should be proper calculation of kilometres while deciding the running allowance. According to it,the risk allowance should be given to all motormen.
Their demands like night allowance and national holiday allowance have been approved by the railway board. Till now,beyond a fixed grade,it was not given to any higher grade motorman. To fulfill other demands,the ministrys approval is mandatory, said a senior official of the Western Railway on condition of anonymity.
When contacted,General Manager of the Central Railway said,Discussions regarding their demands are on in the division office level. Many of their demands can be approved only by the Railway Ministry.
