Mobile phone thief arrested, 90 devices recovered

The Oshiwara police has arrested a 25-year-old man and recovered 90 allegedly stolen mobile phones from his possession. The accused, identified as Akshay Raju Duglaj, reportedly admitted to stealing the devices over the past few months from areas between Andheri and Goregaon.
“All the mobile phones were stolen in the past few months between Andheri and Goregaon and were kept in a plastic bag in a room in Goregaon area. The accused was looking for buyers,” said a police officer.
According to police, the case began after Rahul Mishra, 34, a hotel manager in the Oshiwara area, reported the theft of his mobile phone worth Rs 50,000 from his hotel premises on August 28. Mishra lodged a formal complaint at the Oshiwara police station on Friday.
Sub-Inspector Deepak Thorat and his team traced the accused using technical evidence. During the search operation, Mishra’s stolen phone was recovered from Duglaj’s possession.
Duglaj, a resident of Anand Nagar in Jogeshwari, was further found to be in possession of six additional mobile phones at his residence. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing 83 more phones from various homes in the Anand Nagar area in Goregaon (West), Andheri (West), and Bangur Nagar.
“He kept all 83 mobile phones in a plastic bag and hid near a drainage in the area,” said Senior Inspector Sanjay Chavan of the Oshiwara police station.
The accused has been arrested and is being further interrogated to determine if he had any accomplices. “We have been trying to find out the owners of the phone through IMEI numbers of the phones and once they are identified, the phone will be given to them after a legal process,” added Chavan.
