After months of investigations to trace a missing child and his absconding father, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Director General of Police S S Virk to file a status report on the case.

After months of investigations to trace a missing child and his absconding father, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Director General of Police S S Virk to file a status report on the case.

Division bench of Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice A R Joshi gave the direction while hearing a petition filed by Priti Chug, the mother of the missing child. She had moved court for tracing her husband who has absconded with their four-year-old child.

Additional public prosecutor Poornima Kantharia and Chug’s lawyer Soniya Miskin confirmed that the report has been sought from the DGP.

Priti Chug had moved HC after her husband Bunty, who runs a powerloom business in the city, absconded with their son Sujal on November 14,2008,the day Priti was supposed to have got access of the child following earlier court orders. Priti now fears that he might leave the country with her child as he has connections in Dubai and Germany.

The court had earlier called for records from magistrate’s court in connection with the case and also directed the mother to circulate photographs of the husband and the child in print and television media.

The records were called after Chug’s lawyer contended that the lower court had granted bail to members of husband’s family and the plea for lie detector tests for the husband’s family members have been pending for seven weeks.

The state police had last month handed over the investigation in the case to the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch.

Following court notice, father and brother of Bunty had appeared in court earlier and had admitted that they did not know whereabouts of their son and grandson.

The court, however, refused to buy the story and had cautioned that they would get into big trouble if things turn otherwise.
