Seven cabinet ministers from Shiv Sena met Deputy Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis Monday morning before the state cabinet meeting, demanding action against BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad for targeting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

After the meeting, State Excise Minister Shambhuraj Desai said, “BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad has made baseless and worthless personal allegations against Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. We expressed our displeasure regarding the same and expressed that the BJP should take appropriate action against Ganpat Gaikwad.”

Desai said that he is the guardian minister of Thane district and Kalyan (East) is a constituency within this district. “Never before has Gaikwad raised his problems with me. Devendra Fadnavis has assured us that he will look into the matter and take appropriate action,” said Desai.

According to sources, the Sena ministers’ delegation expressed deep concerns about the actions of Gaikwad and conveyed the expectations of Shiv Sena that the BJP will take action against him. The Sena ministers have also sought disciplinary action from the state legislature seeking Ganpat Gaikwad’s suspension.

On February 2, Ganpat, an MLA from Kalyan (East), fired bullet shots at Mahesh Gaikwad, Shiv Sena leader and former corporator of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), inside Ulhasnagar’s Hill Line police station, after an old rivalry between the two reached a tipping point over a land deal. While Mahesh Gaikwad is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thane, Ganpat Gaikwad has been remanded to police custody.

After the incident, while speaking to the media, Ganpat Gaikwad slammed CM Eknath Shinde, alleging he was promoting criminals and had not paid hundreds of crore he owed Ganpat.

BJP Minister and State Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that no allegations should be made without evidence. “If anyone is making allegations against Chief Minister, then evidence should be given and it should be given to the Home Minister,” he said.
