Mehta qualifies for knockout stage

Mumbai cue-star Aditya Mehta kept up with his winning spree to qualify to the knock out draw stage at the KENCES – ASCA International Invitation Snooker Championship,in Chennai. He defeated Siddharth Parikh of Railways,sweeping off his challenge with a whopping 3-0 frame margin.

Starting with a 77 break in the first frame,Mehta continued to play in style with a 65-break in the second frame to go 2-0 up. The third frame swung both ways but Mehta grabbed good opportunities with the colours and sealed the match 3-0. This being the fourth and the last game of the group matches,Mehta will now play in the knockout stage on Thursday. In the previous matches,Mehta defeated Laxman Rawat of Delhi and J Varun Kumar of Tamil Nadu.

Rutwik,Vitraag cause upsets

Rutwik Pandirkar of OLPS (Chembur) made the first dent into the junior boys singles seeding by sending fourth seeded Shubham Ambre packing in straight games to enter the junior boys singles pre-quarterfinals of the MCF-All Mumbai ranking table tennis tournament,hosted by Borivali’s Mandpeshwar Civic Federation on Wednesday. Attacking forcefully and displaying better control,Rutwik gave seeded Shubham no chance whatsoever and beat him 11-6,12-10,11-7. Likewise Vitraag,who too like Rutwik was unseeded,thrashed third seeded Reagan Albuquerque 11-2,11-5,11-9. Another impressive winners were Mudit Dani,who dropped a game before scoring over Nishant Talsania 9-11,11-4,11-7,11-5, Mihir Patekar downed off colour Harsh Mehta 13-11,11-3,13-11 and Pranav Kotian,who was defeated fancied Tanmay Rane 11-9,9-11,11-5,11-4.
