The Aam Aadmi Party Thursday alleged that Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA’s) yet-to-be-inaugurated academy at Kandivali (West) was built on a BMC plot by flouting rules.

“The Mahavir Nagar plot in Kandivali West is owned by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). In a letter dated February 5,2003,Sharad Pawar asked the BMC to allot a plot in western suburbs to MCA. Without public notifications, the land was granted to MCA in five days,” AAP’s Anjali Damania claimed.

She said BMC should have advertised the proposal before allotting the land, which she claims was given on a ‘caretaker’ basis, which allows construction on the plot.

“We believe the rules were tweaked for MCA’s sake. The proposed guildelines suggest the plot was given on adoption basis, but the guidelines were bypassed,” Damania said.

“In the adoption policy,no construction can be done on the allotted plot,” she added. BMC commissioner Sitaram Kunte said he will look into the matter.
