A day after the Maharashtra government withdrew its government resolutions on three-language formula, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday welcomed the move and added that even though a committee has been formed to look into the matter, it is closed.
Thackeray also said that the victory rally, which is to be held July 5, will be carried out by the Opposition under a common flag.

Speaking outside Vidhan Bhavan on the first day of the monsoon session, Thackeray slammed the government over its move on the three-language formula and said that the July 5 rally will celebrate the collective pushback against the Hindi imposition.

“Even with a committee now formed under Dr Narendra Jadhav, the matter is closed. Hindi cannot be forced on Maharashtra,” he said, questioning the relevance of appointing economists to decide on education policy.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray also confirmed his participation in the rally, cautioning against political branding. “Don’t label this morcha with any party. Language protects culture. If Marathi disappears, so will our identity,” he said.

The rally — likely to be held at Shivaji Park, NSCI Dome, or Nesco grounds — is being positioned as a show of Marathi unity beyond party lines. Sena (UBT) leaders are in the process of securing permissions, keeping monsoon logistics in mind, a source in the two parties said.
Thackeray claimed that workers from the BJP, Shinde Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP were also ready to join the protest had the GR not been revoked.

“The government failed in creating a Marathi vs non-Marathi divide. July 5 will reflect that unity,” he said.
