A 34-YEAR-OLD man was allegedly stabbed to death in broad daylight by four armed assailants in Kandivali Thursday. Samta Nagar police suspect it was a ‘revenge killing’ as the deceased had reported a local goon to them earlier.

Samta Nagar police said Balkrishna Nikhare used to work in an imitation jewellery manufacturing unit in Kandivali along with his brother. The two brothers used to sleep there at night.

Police said that three days ago, Nikhare and his brother had reported to the police that they had seen a local thug, identified only as Akku, rob one of their colleagues of his cellphone. They told police that they had even asked Akku to return the phone, but he had threatened them.

On Thursday afternoon, four men, who the police now suspect to be Akku’s associates, reached Nikhare’s workplace and demanded to speak to him about the complaint that he had given to the police. They asked Nikhare to come with them and took him towards the Maurya Garage near the Western Express Highway. “While Nikhare was talking to the four men, they removed choppers from their pockets and stabbed him repeatedly,” said senior inspector Pravin More.

An officer added that Nikhare was stabbed 14 times but no one stepped up to help him. After the quartet fled, people informed police about the incident. A team reached the spot and rushed Nikhare to a hospital in Kandivali, where he was declared dead before admission.
