Man held for ‘raping, impregnating’ minor

Police said that the accused was a married man with two children and used to be her neighbour.

The Antop Hill police arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor who worked as a babysitter at his house. According to the police, the victim, a 15-year-old girl, is a student and belongs to the same locality and village as the accused.

Police said that the accused was a married man with two children and used to be her neighbour. “The victim was two months pregnant and visited the K J Somaiya Hospital for an abortion on March 14. The hospital authorities informed us about the victim’s abortion,” said Sanjay Surve, senior police inspector, Antop Hill Police. Surve said that the victim did not cooperate with the police and had not shared the name of the accused.

“The accused was arrested on April 3 from Dharavi after being on the run since he heard that the police were searching for the person responsible for impregnating the victim,” said inspector R B Dilare of the Antop Hill police. According to the police, the accused has been charged for rape under the IPC and several sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
