The Mumbra police have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly dumped his week-old child in the swimming pool of actor Mohnish Behl’s farmhouse in Kharegaon near Mumbra last week.

According to the Mumbra police, the suspect, identified as Gaud, had quit his job as a watchman at the farmhouse 15 days ago as he was not getting his salary on time. His wife was pregnant and he needed money for the delivery as well as post-natal expenses.

“While being questioned, he confessed that the child was his, and that he had dumped her body in the pool. He said he quit his job two days after his wife delivered as he desperately needed money. He then spent some days trying to arrange for money but failed. Meanwhile, the baby, who had multiple complications of the heart, lungs and brain, died three days ago,” said sub-inspector Pratap Pawar.

Gaud was placed under arrest following his confession late on Sunday night. He was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.

“The couple is very poor. Gaud’s wife is still in the hospital. She herself is undernourished and suffering from health complications,” Pawar added.
