The Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man for assaulting a traffic constable on duty after he entered into an argument with the cop. The man, Danish Sheikh, a resident of Koparkhairne, had allegedly slapped the 45-year-old traffic constable, Tanaji Patil, on Monday after an argument over shifting his two-wheeler from a road.

According to Patil’s complaint, Sheikh was sitting on his two-wheeler and blocking traffic in Koperkhairne. Patil claimed when he asked Sheikh to move the vehicle to allow traffic to flow smoothly, Sheikh became aggressive and got into an argument. In a video shot by a bystander, Sheikh is seen slapping Patil after which others intervened. He was arrested after Patil filed an FIR under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of IPC.
