A SPECIAL court has sentenced a man to five-year imprisonment for sexually harassing a minor, based on the testimony of the victim and her nine-year old brother. The incident took place on November 16, 2014 in Deonar area where both the victim and the accused resided. The victim, who was 12 at the time of the incident, was playing near her house when the accused approached her and gave her money to buy chocolate.
When the victim returned, the accused, who was in his 30s, took her into a room. He began sexually abusing her, when the victim’s brother saw them. He then rushed home and alerted his mother.
The victim said in her deposition that her mother and other neighbours gathered outside the room and asked the accused to open the door. The accused, however, injured himself by slitting his wrist. The police eventually came to the spot and broke open the door. The accused was booked under IPC Section 354 (sexual harassment) along with sections of the POCSO Act.
