Man blackmails wife’s friend for money,held

The Kasturba Marg police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing his wife’s friend for money and sexual favours.

The Kasturba Marg police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing his wife’s friend for money and sexual favours. The accused,identified as Umesh alias Karan Rathod,is a resident of Shantidaan in Andheri (East).

Police said for the past 12 days,Rathod had been blackmailing a 36-year-old married woman residing in Kandivali after he saw her with her alleged boyfriend in Borivali (East) and clicked a photograph of them using his mobile phone.

The victim,who is married for four years and works at a private bank in Borivali (East),approached the police on Wednesday when the accused demanded sexual favors from her along with Rs 20,000 to keep her alleged affair a secret from her husband and her family.

Police said,the victim gave Rathod Rs 5,000,however,he did not stop blackmailing and demanded the remaining amount as soon as possible. “The victim had refused to fulfill the demands of the accused,when he threatened her that he would show the photos to her husband,” Rajendra Thakur,senior police inspector of Kasturba Marg police said.

On Wednesday,police laid a trap and asked victim to call Rathod near Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

The police have seized Rathod’s mobile phone and have sent it for forensic analysis to extract the photo.
