Man attacks wife,children with cable-cutter,son dies

A 36-year-old Kalyan resident allegedly attacked his wife and three sons with a cable-cutter Thursday as he suspected she was having an affair,police said.

A 36-year-old Kalyan resident allegedly attacked his wife and three sons with a cable-cutter Thursday as he suspected she was having an affair,police said. The wife and two sons were seriously injured,while the youngest son died.

Mahatma Phule police said Sunil Patode,a cable technician working for a telecom company in Navi Mumbai,lived with wife Meena (32) and sons Sujeet (5),Sarvesh (two-and-a-half years) and Devesh (nine months) in a chawl in Rambaug Lane 4,Kalyan (West).

He was arrested and remanded in police custody till March 26.

“Patode and Meena married in 2007. Two years ago,he started suspecting that she was cheating on him,which led to frequent arguments between them,” said inspector Sunil Dhanavade.

He said the accused reached home around midnight and had dinner.

“He later began to read a book as he couldn’t sleep. Meena and the children were asleep. Around 3.30 am,Sunil picked up a cable-cutter he used daily,woke Meena up and slashed her neck. He then began to attack his sons,” Dhanavade said.

Meena managed to alert neighbours,who overpowered Sunil.

“Neighbours took Meena and the children to Shreedevi Hospital and one of them informed police. We found Sunil on the street,dressed to leave. Meena,Sujeet and Sarvesh are stable. Devesh died in hospital,” Dhanavade said.
