The Dharavi police Saturday busted a racket involving issue of SIM cards using forged documents and rubber stamps of bogus distributors named after leading cricketers. Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who worked as a distributor of Aircel SIM cards.

Acting on a tip-off,a team of five policemen raided Vansu General Agency near Vallabh Cooperative Housing Society and arrested Sureshkumar Devrakkam Nadar.

The officers found 36 photocopies of election IDs of persons who had applied for SIM cards, photocopies of Aadhar cards,a few blank and completed application forms and 63 passport sized photographs of different persons.

“We also seized 90 rubber stamps bearing names like Sachin Telecom,Rohit Communications,Dhoni Communication,Virat Telecom,Raina Telecom,Ashwin Enterprises and Rahul Mobile World were seized. However, the scam does not seem linked with the current IPL match fixing scandal,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni,DCP (zone 5).

“We are investigating if there is a larger racket and whether other employees of Aircel are involved,” said Kulkarni.
