A man was arrested in Charkop for allegedly raping his 22-year-old domestic help multiple times over several months. According to police, the man also took photographs of the woman when she was naked and sent them to her friends. The police registered the case in October on the basis of the woman’s statement.

“The accused does some odd jobs in the film industry and stays in Malad. After he met the woman through a common friend, he employed her as a domestic help in June,” said a police officer.

In August, the accused allegedly offered the woman coffee laced with a sedative. When she started losing consciousness, he allegedly stripped her naked and took her photographs, and then raped her. “The accused took her photographs in order to blackmail her,” said the officer.

When she regained consciousness, he told her that he was in love with her and wanted to marry her, the woman told the police. When she refused to keep working for him, he allegedly started blackmailing her with the photographs.

“Singh then started blackmailing her with the photographs and raped her multiple times,” added an officer.
On September 27, the woman went to the man’s house to get her documents that she had submitted to him when he had hired her, but he allegedly attempted to force himself on her. “He again tried to rape her and when she resisted, he assaulted her. He even locked her in his house,” said the officer.

To save herself, the woman rushed to a toilet and locked herself inside. She called her friend who then came to the spot and rescued her. She was taken to Shatabdi Hospital from where she was discharged after treatment.

“The woman learned that the accused had sent her naked photographs to her friends, after which she approached the police station and registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the IT act,” said an officer.

The police said that the accused was arrested later last week, and produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
