Nearly 22 labourers working in a steel factory in Jalna’s MIDC area suffered burn injuries after a sudden leak in an open boiler inside the unit, the police said.
Officials said the incident took place inside the Gaj Kesari steel factory at around 12.30pm on Saturday in which four labourers were seriously injured.

Superintendent of police, Jalna, Ajaykumar Bansal said, “The labourers were working inside the unit when there was a sudden loud noise. It appears that the boiler did not explode but the workers got injured after a boiling metal liquid came out of the boiler and fell on them.”
It is believed the liquid form of metal came out after someone added heavy metal in the boiler, Bansal added.
The labourers raised an alarm and they were rushed to hospitals in Jalna. Later in the day, seven of the total 22 injured were admitted to a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of which four are seriously injured.
“While 12 persons are recuperating in hospitals in Jalna, four of the seven persons admitted in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are seriously injured while the rest are out of danger,” said Bansal.

The Chandanzera police in Jalna have started an investigation into the matter as they have registered a case of negligence against the owner of the company Dilip Jha and two others identified as Sudhakar Roy and Ashok Prajapati for not providing adequate tools, fireproof clothes and first aid equipment.
Bansal said, “Experts in the industrial department will also be conducting a probe and they will be submitting a report to us that will help us in determining the cause of the incident.”
Three workers were admitted to a private hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city in critical condition.
