The ongoing registration for teacher recruitment to government schools in Maharashtra through the Pavitra Portal has been extended to September 30 but the prospective teachers are still awaiting an official notice on the number of vacancies.
The much-awaited recruitment process of teachers to Zilla Parishad, Municipal Council, Corporation as well as aided and semi-aided schools in the state began earlier this month with the opening of ‘Pavitra Portal’.
On Thursday evening, the education department released a notice extending the date so that TAIT (Teachers Aptitude and Intelligence Test)-qualified teachers can complete the self-certification process on the portal. This is the second extension for the same.
What is bothering many applicants who have already enrolled is that they have no clarity on the exact number of vacancies.
“We do not yet know exactly how many recruitments will take place,” said Santosh Magar, president of DEd and BEd Students Association. “There have been statements by the government that there could be 30,000 recruitments in the state but there has not been any official confirmation on this.”

“We are registering on the portal but we still do not the exact number of vacancies in our subject and in our district,” said Priyanka Patil, a recent TAIT-qualified teacher who has registered on the portal.
She added that the minister has mentioned about 30,000 vacancies “but then we hear another number” and so on.
“Earlier, an official advertisement stating the number of openings would come out before the process begins. We are glad the recruitment process has finally started but we need some clarity on whether there will even be an opening for the job I am registering for,” she said.
The reason the delay is due to the rosters that are yet to be completed in several districts. “Fourteen rosters have been completed. We can expect to initiate the process within a month’s time,” Education Commissioner Suraj Mandhare told The Indian Express.
According to official data, 1,26,453 teachers had registered on the Pavitra Portal by September 14. While there are over 60,000 vacancies for teachers in Maharashtra government schools, the teacher recruitment process will happen in stages.
