Maharashtra signs MoU with Toyota for electric car plant in Sambhaji Nagar

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Toyota Kirloskar Motor to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility at Auric City in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore.
The factory will produce electric and hybrid cars and is expected to manufacture 4,00,000 vehicles annually.
Industries Minister Uday Samant announced that the project will create a total of 16,000 jobs, with 8,000 being direct and the remaining 8,000 indirect. “Approximately 850 acres of land have been allocated at Auric City for this project,” Samant added. He also mentioned that before the code of conduct is implemented, the state industries department will release a white paper on industrial investment in the state.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that this Toyota project will revolutionize India’s electric car manufacturing industry. He noted that the state government is actively promoting electric vehicles and expanding their use in public transport.
Japan Consul General calls on CM
The newly appointed Consul General of Japan, Yagi Koji, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his residence Varsha on Wednesday. Shinde urged Japan to increase investment in the state’s industrial and infrastructure sectors. He assured that a special industrial park would be developed at Supe in Pune district for Japanese companies, with full support provided to future investors.
Koji affirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening relations with India. “The investment agreement signed by Toyota Kirloskar Company today underscores Maharashtra’s industry-friendly environment,” he said.
