Maharashtra makes QR-coded Aadhaar card must for all its fishermen
Maharashtra government has said that fishing boat owners failing to adhere to its new rules will have their licences cancelled.

(Photo Credit: Pixabay) Maharashtra has made QR-coded Aadhaar cards mandatory for all fishermen departing from its ports as part of strengthening the state’s maritime security. The directive was issued by Fisheries Commissioner Kishore Tawde on Friday based on the instructions of Minister for Fisheries and Ports Development Nitesh Rane.
During his recent inspection at Sassoon Dock, Rane observed that many fishermen did not possess Aadhaar cards.
To further enhance coastal security, the government has also enforced certain other provisions such as having registration number permanently painted on every fishing vessel as per Indian Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (Section 435(H)) and the Maharashtra Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1981 (Amended 2021, Section 6(4)). The registration number must be clearly visible on both sides at the rear (upper part) of the vessel and engraved and painted on the cabin roof, the directive stated.
