On the Mumbai-Goa highway, the 84-km stretch of Panvel-Kasu-Indapur Road will be concretised and the same should be done on a war footing, Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ravindra Chavan directed the department officials on Monday.

The minister also said that the completion of the Mumbai-Goa highway is a priority of his government. The highway work has been divided into 10 phases, of which five phases are complete while work on the remaining phases is “ongoing progressively”, he said. Similarly, the conversion of the Mumbai-Goa highway into a four-lane highway should be completed as early as possible, Chavan told the officials associated with the highway construction work Monday.

Chavan held a meeting at the Mantralaya along with all public and public representatives of the Konkan region.

Ministers like Uday Samat, Deepak Kesarkar, MLA Jayant Patil, MLA Bharat Gogawale, MLA Prashant Thakur among others were present.

During the review meeting, the PWD officials informed Chavan that one of the lanes of the four-laning work on the 42-km stretch between Kasu and Panvel in Raigad district will be ready by May. They further said the potholes on the stretch will also be filled simultaneously.

Patchwork and necessary concretisation should be taken up immediately, Chavan told the officials. A proper coordination between the National Highway Authority of India and the PWD officials should be ensured on a regular basis in order to expedite the progress of the work, Chavan further said. He also ordered video shooting of the progress through drones.
