The Maharashtra prisons department has ordered a probe following allegations that Suresh Bijlani, an accused in the 2013 murder of builder Sunil Lahoria, was partying with family and associates in his cell at Thane prison on August 28 after coming back from a court hearing. Incidentally, Bijlani was released this Tuesday from Thane prison after being granted bail by the Supreme Court for two months.

Thane jail officials claimed that Bijlani did not have a court hearing on August 28 and the allegations are baseless. Inspector General (prisons) Bipin Kumar Singh said, “I have asked for a probe in the matter.” A senior prison official said the sender of a letter bearing this allegation, a man who identifies himself as Siddharth Khadtare, could not be located.
