After the Congress was denied the Sangli Lok Sabha constituency, party leader Vishal Patil is likely to contest as an independent candidate. Former MLA Vilasrao Jagtap has resigned from BJP and has declared open support to Vishal Patil. Now, Vishal Patil is emerging as a dark horse in a triangular fight, if he goes ahead with the nomination and may get support from dissatisfied factions of both Congress and BJP.

We hope the BJP will enforce the Maratha reservation with enhanced allocation.” The state government has promised a 10 per cent quota to Marathas.
