(Express Photo By Ganesh Shirsekar)Nationalist Congress Party (SP) working president and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday said that objections raised over the Maharashtra Assembly election process should also be discussed in Parliament.
“There are many issues and questions. It should be discussed in Parliament as well, to ensure transparent administration. The discussion is needed to bring checks and balances to avoid anything in future,” Sule said in Mumbai.
Sule was replying to a question on Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, raising the issue of an 8 per cent rise in voters in Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s Assembly constituency between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections last year.
Sule also expressed concern over recent reports on the Election Commission destroying the video footage and photographs of the elections within two to three months after polling.
“I am worried about the decision to destroy the data within two to three months. What is wrong with storing data? We have data centres. There is a facility like cloud storage. There should not be any problem in storing data,” she said.
The Baramati MP said that her party was fighting multiple cases in courts. “We (as a party) have many court cases pending. Right from our party symbol to many of our candidates have filed cases in courts. These cases from our candidates are data-driven and are not fake allegations…The discussion should be transparent, data-driven and reach a logical conclusion. It is like giving the answer sheet for rechecking… if you have written it correctly, what is wrong in giving it for rechecking,” Sule said.
