A 48-year-old woman died and at least 15 others were injured after a slab of a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connecting two platforms at Balharshah railway station in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district collapsed on Sunday evening. The Central Railway (CR) has initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the mishap.

According to police, the incident took place at around 5 pm when the slab of the FOB between platform number 1 and platform number 2 collapsed. As a result, at least 15 people using the bridge at the time fell on the railway tracks. A woman among them lost her life. At least two others have sustained serious injuries and were being treated at a private hospital.
A police officer said the slab which fell was 16-feet long and was a pre-cast structure.
The woman who died was identified as Nilima Rangari. She died during treatment late Sunday of head injuries. Another woman identified as Ranjana Khadtad is in a critical condition while another person, Radheshyam Singh, is yet to regain consciousness.
“Three critically injured persons were shifted to a private hospital,” said a senior police officer. adding that “the three suffered serious head injuries”.
