“During that time,Chavan developed feelings for her and also approached her. However,Preeti refuted his advances and told him that she was not interested in him. They had an argument following which Preeti quit and joined an airline company. After some time his shop was demolished in a road widening process,” said Police Inspector (Crime) Ramchandra Gurav from the MIDC police station. For next two years however,Chavan, who was working as a technician, was not in touch with Preeti, said the police. “On Wednesday morning, when Preeti was on her way to work,Chavan allegedly accosted her and assaulted her with a sharp knife injuring her throat and stomach. We are yet to find out the reason for his sudden come back two years later,” said Gurav. Alerted by her cries, pedestrians rushed her to Holy Spirit Hospital where she is currently recuperating.

At the hospital,Preeti’s mother, said,“Ever since the incident,we have been getting calls from friends, acquaintances and relatives who are enquiring about my daughter.”
