Rains lash parts of Mumbai, heavy waterlogging reported

Till 8 am on Tuesday, the city received 30.08 mm rainfall, while the eastern and the western suburbs received 42.72 mm and 58.66 mm rainfall respectively.

Early morning rains affected Mumbai’s Western Line on Tuesday with several trains services delayed. Till 8 am on Tuesday, the city received 30.08 mm rainfall, while the eastern and the western suburbs received 42.72 mm and 58.66 mm rainfall respectively. A Western Railway spokesperson said there was a point failure at Bandra, with two tracks closed and two operational.

– Thane district received 143 mm rain in last 24 hrs. Thane 85 mm, Kalyan 195 mm, Bhiwandi 195 mm, Shahapur 138 mm, Ulhasnagar 150 mm, Ambernath 142 mm , Murbad 98.50 mm.

– Two dead and one injured after a wall collapsed at Govandi at 6 am on Tuesday. Injured woman admitted at Shatabdi.

– Palghar District Collector Abhijit Bhangar declared a holiday in schools and other educational institutions in the
taluka on account of heavy rains.

– Heavy rains was reported in Safala region paralysing the normal life there, Palghar disaster management control room said.

– According to BMC’s disaster management control room, there was traffic jam on Western Express Highway and few BEST buses were diverted on some routes, including at Chembur and Matunga.

– The cancelled trains are Ahmedabad Express, Bandra-Surat Inter-city Express, Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi ExpressMumbai Central-Porbundar Express and Bandra Terminus-Vapi passenger train.

– “We are having good to very good clouding at the offshores and expect good rainfall in next 48 hours,” IMD Mumbai centre’s director V K Rajiv said.

– During the last 24 hours, Colaba in south Mumbai received 15.8 mm rainfall while Santacruz weather station recorded 61 mm downpour.

– In the Palghar district adjoining neighbouring Thane, schools were shut today due to heavy rains since last evening,
officials said.

– Some express trains of Western Railway cancelled due to water-logging while local train services of Central Railway were suspended for a short while 10 between Kurla and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) after tracks got submerged between Sion and Kurla.
