‘Like Modi is the man for BJP, I want to be same for Shiv Sena’

Shiv Sena is progressive in its ideology, and Uddhav Thackrey has great visions to improve the education system of the state.

Vinay Jain (45), a first timer, is being supported by the Shiv Sena as an apt candidate for the Gujarati and Muslim pockets in Malad, against popular Congress candidate Aslam Shaikh. Jain, a teacher, is considered to be popular among the student and parent community. Jain heads chain of international schools under the brand name Witty Kids & Witty International School.

How did you join politics? Was this what you always wanted to do?

In 2009, all I wanted to do was open a school, but due to corruption in the government, for 24 months my file was stuck just because I refused to bribe officials. That was when I decided that I needed to do something for society. Since I have been a teacher for the past 18 years, I knew this would help in making a better future for students. Having no experience in politics worked in my favour. There is no child in Malad who has not been taught by me and no parent who has not sought my advice and guidance. I was the youngest president of the Goregaon Sports Club, a premier sports club of Malad and Goregaon, due to which everybody in the area knows me.

Why are you contesting the elections as a Shiv Sena candidate?

Shiv Sena is progressive in its ideology, and Uddhav Thackrey has great visions to improve the education system of the state. Children who are given the right education grow up and become better human beings. Progress of a nation depends on the youth of that country. The Shiv Sena invited me to join them and contest the elections from their party. As an MLA, my main role will be development of the education system. Setting up schools, colleges and guidance centres will be my priority. Unlike other contestants, I do not have any case registered against me and I am confident that the Shiv Sena will win.

After the BJP-Shiv Sena split, what are your chances of winning?

The BJP won because of just one man – Narendra Modi. I believe that I can be that one person for the Shiv Sena. It is time to prove myself and since Uddhav Thackrey has faith in me, I will win.

What are the solutions that you will provide to the issue of traffic in Malad due to malls and increase in high rises?

Small steps taken can solve the traffic issue in Malad. The area needs three flyovers – one at MTNL Junction on SV Road and two on Link Road. The second step I will take is efficient bus and auto services.

You are neither a Marathi, nor a Muslim…how do you plan to win the votes of Malwani  or Marathis in Malad?

Shiv Sena is expanding and many people from different castes are joining. Progress can only be achieved if everyone works together. This is the message that I will convey to my voters.
