While experts across the country are busy churning out ways to reduce stress among students, students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay have come up with a unique idea of using humour to beat stress.

Engineering students Ritika Goyal (21),Mayank Singhal (21),Kshitij Kothi (21) and Niranjan Shridhar (24) got together last year to make a venture out of their love for humour and created a website called LOL-Land to promote a very Indian genre of humour amongst students. The four generate their own content for the website and encourage others to post their own content.

Mayank, who is executive manager of the website and a fourth-year student of computer science at IIT-B,said,“Through this website we aim at reaching out to the student community, provide them their daily dose of humour and eradicate the stress from their lives.”

The students post everything inspired by humour based on the Indian way of life, flop Bollywood movies, actors ranging from Mithun Chakraborty to Himesh Reshamiya and,of course, cricket. Students just have to sign up at lol-land.in to post their own content in the form of jokes, articles and even videos.

Along with the four students in the core team, there is a team of 10 others who help generate content and maintain the site. Ritika,a fourth-year electrical engineering student, said,“It was just a hobby and a humour site to us initially, but now we are treating and maintaining the website as a full-fledged venture. We have a proper team comprising students who design the website, publicity brochures, marketing plans, make sketches, cartoons, design games for the website etc. In fact,we are also planning to tie up with newspapers and magazines to provide humour contents.”

LOL-Land is also popular on Facebook and has nearly 2,500 fans so far. Ritika added,“Our website has almost 1,000 visitors every day.”
