Kasarwadavli police in Thane arrest 5 including ex-MLA on charges of land grab

FOLLOWING A court order, the Kasarwadavli police in Thane arrested five persons including a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in connection with an alleged case of land grabbing. Gilbert Mendonca, who was an MLA on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from the Mira Bhayander area, along with four others have been accused of creating forged paperwork to grab a 108-acre land in Thane.

Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar said, “Based on a court order, we have registered FIRs against five persons and have placed them under formal arrest.” The five accused have been identified as Pilu Mehta, Karsi Gaad, Gilbert Mendonca, Ashok Hire and lawyer G B Lal. Narkar said that the five accused persons had allegedly conspired together to create forged documents that were used to grab the plot of land in Thane.

Narkar said the documents were used to show Pilu Mehta as the owner of the plot. The actual owners had approached the court which ruled against the accused and directed the Kasarwadavli police under which the plot fell to register an FIR against the five.
