A Mumbai sessions court on Friday rejected the bail application of Sanjay More, the BEST bus driver involved in the Kurla accident that caused nine deaths last month. More had filed for bail last week claiming that a mechanical failure had caused the crash involving the electric bus he was driving near Kurla railway station on December 9.

The police had opposed the plea stating that checks on the bus had found no technical fault with the bus and a probe was ongoing with 40 witness statements recorded. The police have booked More under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

More’s lawyer Samadhan Sulane had submitted that he was being made a scapegoat and that the technical issues with the bus were not being brought to light. He also claimed that the electric bus involved in the incident was not seized by the police but was kept at a depot where Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials examined it and ruled out any mechanical failure. More was not found to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, he submitted.

The detailed order is not available yet.
