Probe on as Kirit Somaiya receives email threatening to leak video clip; Rs 50 lakh demanded
An officer said the email was received on Somaiya's office email address on Sunday and the email ID was in the name of one Rishikesh Shukla.

(Express file photo by Ganesh Shirsekar) BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that he has received an extortion email threatening to circulate a video on him on social media platforms. The accused has demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakh from him for not circulating the video, he said.
After Somaiya gave a written complaint to the Mumbai police, a case under Section 385 (extortion ) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Navghar police station against an unknown person.

Sources said that the email was sent to Somaiya’s office mail ID on Sunday. In the mail, an unknown person threatened to make an alleged obscene video of him viral and demanded Rs 50 lakh from him. The mail was sent from the email ID of one Rishikesh Shukla, the police said.
