A 45-year-old jeweller was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting three minors in the past 30 days. The suspect also allegedly showed obscene photographs and videos to the girls on his mobile phone.
According to VP Road police officers,Rajesh Mulchand Jain owns a jewellery shop at a building in Khetwadi area. The complainant,an eight-year-old girl,lives with her grandmother in the same building,said an officer.
Over the past month,Jain call the girl to his shop on the pretext of running some errands for him. He would then sexually abuse her,said the police.
When she objected,he told her that she wasnt the only one,and that she should oblige like the other girls, said inspector Srikant Desai.
The officers said employees of Aasra,an NGO that work for welfare of commercial sex workers,spotted the girl crying on Tuesday outside Jains shop. The girl told them about the incident and said Jain used to give her Rs 10 or 20 each time he abused her. The NGO workers then approached the police.
As the girl was scared and not in a condition to talk,we sent a woman police officer along with an NGO worker to get her statement. This is when she revealed that names of the two other victims,aged nine and 12 years. We arrested Jain under section 376 (rape) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 292 (showing obscene photos) along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, said Desai.
Jain was produced in court and remanded in police custody till October 8.
Model molested by neighbour
A model on Wednesday approached Goregaon police,alleging that her neighbour had molested her. Police officers said incident the CCTV camera of the models building captured the incident.
