The first Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Selection Tournament will be hosted by Khar Gymkhana under the auspices of Mumbai Suburban District Badminton Association from Wednesday,August 11. The events are men’s and women’s singles and doubles. Entries through the respective districts may be forwarded to the MBA hon.secretary,Sunder Shetty,upto 6 p.m. on August 4.

Entries invited for seven-a-side football tourney

The Dev Friends Sports Club will be organising a seven-a-side instant football tournament at the Colgate Palmolive ground,Bandra (East) on Sunday,August 4. This one-day event offers handsome cash prize of Rs 11,111 for the winners and Rs 7,777 for the losers,besides trophies and individual awards.

Teams interested in participating will be allowed to register 10 players including a goalkeeper and they will have to pay an entry fee of Rs 1,500. Kalina Football League from August 9

The annual Kalina Football League,organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Chruch Sports Committee,is set to kick off with the qualifying rounds at the St. Mary’s High School ground,from Friday,August 9. This is the 14th edition of the KFL and simultaneously they will conducting tournaments in three other categories — boys under-16,ladies and a veterans event. Kalina has always produced top quality footballers and this league is helping the youngsters to display their talent and skills in the city. Coaches from leading clubs are always spotted watching the matches keenly to scout for these young talents and pick them for their respective clubs.

Nilam reigns supreme in the 10km run

Nilam Rajput and Chetan Agate emerged best in then women’s and men’s category in the 10km run road races,organized by Mumbai Suburban District Athletic Association,in Borivali on Sunday. Nilam,who earlier this season had won the Goa 10km run,clocking 39 minutes 35 seconds. Trupti Nakhava (00:47:41) was placed second,while Shweta Kamlaia was third with 00:59:52 secs.
