Around a month after the driver of Anurag Garg — a key conspirator in the murder of Navi Mumbai builder S K Lohariya —resurfaced after over a year, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, after questioning him, has decided to make him a witness in the case. Officials said that Kamble is significant in the sense that he establishes a link between the killers and those who ordered the hit.
The driver, Prashant Kamble, is alleged to have delivered the supari amount from Garg to former policeman Emmanuel Amolik, who is accused of having planned and executed the hit. He had been missing since Lohariya was shot dead outside his Vashi office on February 13, 2013 and the police had been looking for him since then. After Garg surrendered on May 9, the police were trying to get information about Kamble’s whereabouts from him. Garg, however, was remanded in judicial custody only 10 days after his arrest, giving the Crime Branch scant opportunity to question Garg about Kamble.
Based on a tip-off, the Crime Branch sent a team to Kamble’s father-in-law’s residence in Karnataka late last month and found Kamble staying there. He was brought to Mumbai on May 29 .
