The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested the tehsildar of Karjat district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a mine owner in Karjat.
ACB officials said Karjat district collector Yuvraj Bangar issued a notice to the complainant after the latter allegedly flouted some norms in his stone mine.
Earlier this month, the complainant met Bangar in his office in connection with this notice. Bangar then allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from the complainant in lieu of not taking any action against him. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB.
After preliminary inquiries substantiated the complainants claim,we registered a case against Bangar and set about laying a trap. Acting on our instructions, the complainant contacted Bangar and expressed his willingness to pay the bribe. After negotiation, the amount was brought down to Rs 5 lakh, said an ACB officer.
On Monday evening, the complainant reached Bangars office in Karjat and handed him the bribe. As soon as Bangar accepted the money,ACB officials, who were waiting outside the office in plain clothes, arrested Bangar.
Meanwhile,an assistant public prosecutor with the Lohara court in Usmanabad was also arrested Monday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a farmer, whose case he was supposed to fight in court.
