The CBI on Tuesday registered a case of murder against gangster Chhota Rajan under the IPC and various sections of the Arms Act. This was in connection with the Jyoti Dey murder case.
In November last year, the state government had transferred the 69 cases against Chhota Rajan to the agency citing a UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime. “The CBI took up the probe of the case which was earlier registered at Powai police station, dated 11.6.2011. Maharashtra Police had filed a chargesheet against 10 accused on 03.12.2011, showing two persons as ‘wanted accused’ and further filed supplementary chargesheet against one accused on 21.02.2012 in the designated court at Mumbai,” the press release from the agency stated.
Last month, the Bombay HC appointed S S Adkar, a city civil and sessions judge, to try Rajan.
