A FAREWELL dinner for Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Dixit and Additional DG S P Gupta who are due for retirement has been organised by the IPS association on July 31.
While a circular on the informal dinner to be hosted at IPS mess in Worli has been sent to the members of the association, senior sources in the state police told The Indian Express that Dixit’s name would be pulled out from the dinner if the government gives him an extension. The circular that was accessed by The Indian Express stated that officers should contribute Rs 500 each for the dinner and the dress code would be ‘informal’.
The dinner would start from 8 pm. Gupta is currently posted as additional DG, VDO, MSEDL.
The circular also mentioned that officials of IG rank and above from commissionerates like Thane, Navi Mumbai etc are also expected to join the dinner. “A farewell dinner is organised for all retiring IPS officers as a tradition. It is an informal gathering where the retiring officers and the juniors exchange pleasantries and the officers engage into sharing their experiences while in the force. The juniors also get a chance to express their gratitude in working under their supervision,” said an officer.
The officer, however, added that while Dixit’s name is in the circular, it might be modified at the last hour in case the
government gives him an extension.
