Mumbai Police Crime Branch property cell Tuesday arrested three bookies who allegedly facilitated telephonic conversations between bookies in Pakistan and Dubai and Indian bookies.
Police identified the accused as Ramesh Vyas (52),Pandurang Kadam (41) and Ashok Vyas (32). Ramesh was earlier arrested in 2005 and was later linked to notorious bookie Shobhan Mehta,police said.
Property cell officers said they received a tip-off about the racket operating out of Lalwani Mansion,Kalbadevi.
On raiding the apartment,we found the three suspects in the process of accepting bets on a Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kings XI Punjab IPL match, said a Crime Branch officer.
Police recovered 92 cellphones from the flat,apart from 18 SIM cards,a TV,a laptop computer,a set-top box and Rs 47,900.
We have examined the cellphones and have found around 30 numbers of bookies from Pakistan and Dubai,along with 62 numbers of alleged Indian bookies. The trio would receive calls from Dubai or Pakistan on their cellphones and then forward the call to bookies in India, the officer said.
The trio have been remanded in police custody till May 20,police said.
