After a 43-year-old Mulund resident died on August 2, her kidneys, liver and cornea that were donated helped four people start a new life. The donor was admitted to Fortis Hospital on July 31 for treatment of intracranial bleeding.
She suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest and died on August 2. Her husband agreed to donate all possible organs for transplant.
“The family was even ready to donate her lung, but as of now there are no lung transplants taking place in the city. We only retrieved kidney, liver and eyes from her body,” said Santosh Sorate, coordinator of the transplant.
The 43-year-old is the 27th cadaver donor in the city this year.
The hospital said one of her kidneys was donated to a 45-year-old woman in Fortis Hospital. The other kidney was donated to another 45-year-old woman in Bombay Hospital on Sunday.
