The Bombay High Court Friday asked the state government to file an affidavit stating the measures it proposes to take to improve court infrastructure across the state.
A PIL filed by the Litigants Association of Maharashtra, had claimed that there were inadequate facilities like toilets, drinking water and benches for litigants.
The court also said that the state government should formulate a scheme to ensure that basic facilities are available in all courts in the state.
“It is the duty of the state government to provide basic amenities like toilets. It goes without saying that a facility for clean, drinking water will also have to be provided, along with seating space for litigants and witnesses,” the court remarked and asked the state government to file a reply by April 25.
