IMD Mumbai head Sunil Kamble stated that there is a possibility for the temperature in Mumbai to decrease by a couple of degrees in the coming weekend. (Representational) The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai issued a heatwave warning for the second consecutive day on Thursday. This comes after the Santacruz observatory recorded a daily maximum temperature above 37 degrees Celsius for the third day in a row.
On Thursday, the IMD recorded a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius in its Santacruz observatory, which is four degrees above normal. The previous day, the IMD recorded 38.8 degrees Celsius, making it the third highest maximum temperature recorded during the month of April. On Tuesday, the IMD recorded a temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius.
IMD Mumbai head Sunil Kamble stated that there is a possibility for the temperature in Mumbai to decrease by a couple of degrees in the coming weekend. He explained that the city is experiencing higher temperature levels due to the late setting of the sea breeze. However, the wind flow is expected to change from Friday, which may lead to an early setting of the breeze and subsequently lower maximum temperatures in the city.
Meanwhile, the IMD’s coastal observatory in Colaba recorded a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which was one degree above normal. The minimum temperature recorded on Thursday at Colaba and Santacruz were 26.2 and 26.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, which were also one and two degrees above normal.
On Thursday, Mumbai had a relative humidity of 49%.
